About New Vision

Mission Statement:

New Vision will enhance the income, quality of life, and employment stability of Yakima County residents by retaining, expanding and recruiting new business and industry.

Goals:

  1. New Vision will attract new industry to Yakima County as part of its effort to diversify and strengthen the regional economy;
  2. New Vision will respond to the needs of local manufacturers, key businesses and entrepreneurs recognizing that they are a significant source of new jobs, investment, and wealth creation within our Region; and
  3. New Vision will provide leadership and energy on the Yakima Valley’s key community issues in order to drive economic diversification

Attracting New Industry

Key Business Targets:  Food processing, manufacturing, warehouse/distribution & backoffice firms;

New Vision markets the Yakima Valley using a combination of mail, phone calls, prospecting trips, and sales calls.  New Vision’s website (www.ycda.com) is a primary tool to support business recruitment.  Check out our weekly blog posts, marketing videos and battery of demographics info;

New Vision typically responds to 30 expanding companies each year and hosts 3-5 site visits per year.

Supporting Established and Emerging Local Businesses

Our office works to help local manufacturers.  We provide assistance with tax credits and incentives, business financing, worker training and employee hiring support, permitting, and infrastructure (ex. roads, water lines) funding;

New Vision staff proactively contacts 40-50 key companies annually to gauge their health and offer tailored assistance as necessary; and

New Vision is helping emerging businesses and entrepreneurs.  We work with partners to offer seminars for startup enterprises.  We also stage the Enterprise Challenge, a business plan contest that helps identify and reward the region’s most promising new ventures. 

 
Providing Leadership on Community Issues Affecting the Regional Economy

New Vision helps local employers recruit technical and professional employees to the region.  Our talent attraction initiative is anchored by our new websites, www.liveyakimavalley.com and www.workyakimavalley.com.  We also train ambassadors to work with new residents and organize receptions to introduce new residents to local leaders. 

New Vision administers the Yakima County SIED fund that helps fund public utility improvements that support expanding companies and pave the way for new business facilities;

New Vision is actively involved in redeveloping the former Boise Cascade mill site as well as other industrial/commercial sites in Yakima County

 
Progress

New Vision has helped 18 companies locate or expand operations in Yakima County since 2005.  These companies have invested over $75 million in new facilities and added over 600 new jobs.
