Job Search Website Powered by Twitter

November 04, 2011

A couple years ago we created www.workyakimavalley.com as a companion to our lifestyle site which helps new residents get plugged into our Valley.  We created this specialized job search site realizing that some of our best and brightest former residents would return to the area if they just had a job.  The site is also a great resource for professional employees whose spouses may need to find jobs in order to relocate to our community.

The site is pretty simple.  It features every worthwhile job board we could find and we programmed the links to these employment sites so they would only pull up jobs within a 50-mile radius of Yakima.  We also provided information on our larger local employers for jobseekers that want to make their own connections.  A special feature of the site is our Twitter feed that provides the most up to date job openings in our region.

The Twitter feed works when employers register their websites where they have posted jobs on www.indeed.com or www.simplyhired.com (does not work for jobs posted on Craiglist).  Once you register with these websites our Twitter plug-in will capture these new jobs and feed them to the new openings section on our website.  To see the whole list of jobs currently posted visit our twitter site, called workyakima.

Our workyakimavalley site is also capturing more attention.  When we first launched the site it was getting about 250 visitors a month.  We sense it took time for people to discover our site among the many job search sites available.  Traffic is now climbing towards 1000 visitors a month, a three fold increase just this year.  We are pleased with this traffic increase and working to acquaint more people with this resourceful website.
