New Vision Investors Build Our Community

January 14, 2015

Each month I pick a few of our New Vision supporters and give them a shout out for their business accomplishments or community contributions.  For January I am pleased to highlight Horizon Distribution, Lower Valley Credit Union, and Conover Insurance.

alt textHorizon Distribution is the oldest standing business in Yakima County.  Started as a retail hardware store in 1881 the company evolved slowly into a wholesale hardware distributor.  Today it serves hardware stores, contractors, rental equipment shops, and related businesses throughout the Northwest.  Horizon is a fourth generation family owned business.  President Ken Marble gives lots of time back to our community.  He is one of New Vision's past chairman and he helped found Citizens for Safe Yakima Valley Communities.  His CFO Dan Marples currently serves as our Board Treasurer and is also involved in Kiwanis and other community endeavors.

alt textThe Lower Valley Credit Union (LVCU) is a member owned financial cooperative based in Sunnyside.  It started humbly over 60 years ago when 25 catholics met in the basement of a local church and contributed $5 each towards starting a new credit union.  Originally the LVCU was affiliated with the Catholic Credit Union but changes in regulations forced it to become a stand alone institution.  The credit union is heavily involved in the community - it regularly supports food drives, relays for life, trunk or treat events and other good causes.  The biggest news from LVCU is that they finished building a brand new building in Sunnyside recently.  It includes more teller stations, a loan department, and more drive up banking stations.  The new branch also has a children’s learning and play area, self-service computers and a large conference room that can be used by the community. The building is beautiful and a great addition to Sunnyside.

alt textConover Insurance is a full service independent insurance agency whose roots go back to 1908.  Still locally owned, the company's brokers can help companies and individuals avoid or insulate themselves from risks of almost any type.  Conover is also very vested in our community.  As n example we appreciate that Conover team members like Sherry Lynch and Trevor Harpor regularly participate in our Industry Roundtable meetings.  Both of them (as well as their associates) are very interested in helping our community grow.

Thanks to all our investors for supporting our cause.  Next month I'll highlight more members of our team.
