Grandview Poised to Complete Major Downtown Revitalization

August 7, 2009 by Dave McFadden

The city of Grandview is ready for a complete makeover. The city recently secured federal stimulus funding to complete their Downtown Alive project. Stimulus funds are being blended with other state and local funds to widen sidewalks and add new benches, planters, and lights to create a people-oriented shopping environment.

According to Mayor Norm Childress, “This has been on the city’s wish list for many years so we’re thrilled to have the funding in place to complete this project. Our community will benefit from additional wine and agriculture tourism resulting in a stronger local economy and lifestyle.” The city is processing construction bids within 45 days with plans for completion by the fall of 2010.

The downtown revitalization is one part of nearly $10 million dollars worth of projects either under way or in the pipeline for the city of Grandview, including a $4 million joint library with Yakima Valley Community College. “Our hats are off to the Grandview community. They have done a fabulous job on this initiative,” notes Yakima county Development Association’s Lisa Smith. “Downtown revitalization is a key part of our overall recipe for growth with the Yakima Valley.”
