Junior Achievement To Build New Center in Yakima

July 10, 2009 by Dave McFadden

The Yakima Valley is poised to benefit from the expansion of Junior Achievement, a national organization that provides business, economics and life-skills education to young people at K-12 schools. Junior Achievement (JA) of Washington has been around for decades and currently provides tailored education programs to over 100,000 students annually.

As a result of securing a $2 million legislative appropriation, JA is planning to construct a new 12,000 square foot facility in Yakima that will house JA Finance Park for 8th graders and JA BizTown for 5th graders. JA will also make K-12 in-school programming available to school districts throughout the Central Washington region.

According to David Moore, President of JA Washington, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to reach out to children in Eastern Washington. As we meet with educators and community leaders, we are overwhelmed by their commitment to find ways to prepare kids to succeed.” This is great news for the Yakima Valley and it dovetails perfectly with New Vision’s new initiative to support entrepreneurship and business education. For more information about Junior Achievement visit www.jawashington.org

So happy to read the news regarding JA…of course, one of my pet projects. Sure to raise awareness, educate, and support the “grooming” of our youth to become our leaders of tomorrow. Well done, Yakima!
