Key Local Farm Supplier Expands In Sunnyside
September 18, 2009 by Dave McFadden
Bleyhl Farm Service recently announced their expansion project which includes moving their operations from downtown Sunnyside to a Port of Sunnyside location. The Port has been working with Bleyhl on the project for a year resulting in Bleyhl purchasing 2.25 acres for its propane storage and distribution operations and essentially doubling its storage capacity. Bleyhl primarily services Yakima County farmers who use propane heaters in the spring to ward off frost, the growing hop industry uses propane to dry their crop, and residential needs have grown with population growth.
The new property will require an access road and private rail spur at a cost of $500,000. $275,000 of which is funded from Yakima County’s Supporting Investments in Economic Development (SIED) funds through a 50/50 grant/loan respectively. Yakima County Development Association is the administrator for SIED, which was created 12 years ago and has since invested over $21 million dollars to support business and economic development projects throughout Yakima County. The program is often used as a resource to help companies defray costs of extending roads and other public utilities to their new facilities.
According to New Vision’s Business Development Director Tammy Everts, “We’re pleased to assist Bleyhl with their move to Port property. In addition to the economic impact of installing the access road, infrastructure, and new building and equipment, their expansion will also produce several more full-time positions for the Sunnyside area as well as ensure Bleyhl’s clients are adequately served.”
