Local Company Tapped to Manufacture Device for Law Enforcement Agencies

August 28, 2009 by Dave McFadden

Magic Metals, a metals and machining manufacturer located in Union Gap, WA, has been tapped to produce a device which allows a law enforcement officer to disable a fleeing vehicle by flattening its tires. The device, called Mobile Spike, deploys a spiked device from the front bumper of the patrol car alongside a fleeing vehicle.

Mobile Spike’s CEO, Andrew Ferguson, contracted with Magic Metals to make the components, which are packaged with a special bumper and other elements then assembled in Ridgefield, WA, where Mobile Spike is headquartered. The company now employs six full-time employees, several of whom are from the Yakima Valley.

“This is another example of a Yakima Valley manufacturer engineering and producing unique products for entrepreneurs and creating opportunities for business growth and expansion. We applaud both Mobile Spike and Magic Metals for their ingenuity and wish them much success” says Lisa Smith, business development director for Yakima County Development Association. For more information about Mobile Spike click here.
