Local Hospital Receives National Award For Cardiac Care

Yakima Regional Cardiac and Medical Center is one of four hospitals in Washington State to receive the prestigious Gold Performance Achievement Award from American College of Cardiology. The award signifies that Yakima Regional has met and exceeded stringent quality standards set by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association for 24 consecutive months.
“We’re proud to receive this award,” says Corinne Murphy-Hines, executive director of Cardiac Services. “Since this award is outcome based, it shows that Yakima Regional is among the best in the country in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction patients,” she added. The award considers many standards including the use of medications like cholesterol lowering drugs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, aspirin and anti-coagulants, among many others.
According to CEO Monte Bostwick, another factor in determining who receives this award is the amount of time between “door to balloon”, the time that elapses between the time the heart attack patient enters the emergency room and the time procedures are underway to clear block arteries. Nationwide the average time is 90 minutes, Yakima Regional’s average time is 58 minutes.
“We were very pleased to see one of our local hospitals recognized for the superior cardiac care they provide,” said Lisa Pearl Smith, business development director for New Vision, “Yakima Regional is one of 121 hospitals in the nation to receive this award and it is a testament to the strength and diversity of our local healthcare industry.”
