Yakima County’s Supporting Investments In Economic Development (SIED) board agreed to put $500,000 behind the city of Grandview’s $3.2 million dollar downtown revitalization initiative.
The project emphasizes new wider sidewalks, street trees, period lighting, and other street amenities allowing for dining and pedestrian friendly outdoor activities designed to create a more vibrant downtown area for residents and visitors. According to Grandview’s mayor Norm Childress, “The approval of SIED funding for this project, along with other sources, is an important component to begin construction. Our citizens and business owners are excited for the renovations to begin thereby creating business attraction and growth into Grandview.”
Dave McFadden, president of the Yakima County Development Association adds, “We’re pleased to see Grandview moving forward with this project; it complements other revitalization projects either completed or in process in other Yakima County communities. We’re seeing our local cities step up and create vibrant downtown districts – these efforts are a vital part of building our future economy.”
The SIED program was created 12 years ago and has since invested over $21 million dollars to support business and economic development projects throughout Yakima County. The program is often used as a resource to help companies defray costs of extending roads and other public utilities to their new facilities. Businesses supported with SIED investments have created over 1,200 new jobs since the program was established.
