Health and Medical Industry

Yakima County is one of Washington State’s key regional centers for health care services.  In addition to providing consumers diverse health care services, Yakima County’s health care sector is moving in exciting new directions.  Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) opened in 2008 and represents the first new medical school in the Pacific Northwest in over 60 years.  The University is training doctors but also expanding to offer additional degrees for other health care professions.  Collaboration within the region’s medical community is often unparalleled and it results in success stories like Children’s Village, the North Star Cancer Care Lodge, and the newly accredited Chest Pain Center.  As a growing center for health care education, specialized medical treatment, and health care-oriented businesses, Yakima County has resources which can help health care companies thrive.
