Washington Ranks #2 In Nation For Overall Business Climate

October 2, 2009 by Dave McFadden

Forbes.com recently announced its annual business climate ranking and Washington State moved up from third to second on the “Best States for Business” list. Washington inched up the list as a result of strong rankings in three areas: quality of the labor force, prospects for economic growth, and the underlying strength of key business sectors and jobs.

The ranking will undoubtedly help keep Washington on the minds of companies that are searching for places to expand operations. At the same time though, Washington was in the middle of the pack in terms of business costs. As a result of higher than average housing costs, Washington was also in the middle of the pack in terms of quality of life.

“The ranking helps us in Yakima County,” says New Vision’s Lisa Smith, “Our region has lower business costs than most metro areas in Washington, and our housing prices are also relatively affordable,” she added. Yakima County’s business climate is especially favorable for agriculture, warehouse distribution, backoffice, and industrial machinery companies. To learn more about our region’s key industries, click here.
