Yakima Among The Most Secure Places To Live In The U.S.

December 18, 2009 by Dave McFadden

According to Farmer’s Insurance, Yakima County ranked 19th in the nation as one of the most secure places to live.   The study was recently compiled by www.bestplaces.net. The study compiled rankings for small, medium, and large metropolitan areas across the United States. Yakima was ranked among regions with populations between 150,000 to 500,000.
Taking into consideration crime statistics, extreme weather, risk of natural disasters, housing depreciation, foreclosures, air quality, environmental hazards, terrorist threats, life expectancy, and job loss numbers Yakima came in at 19th out of 127 regions. “The study confirms that our Valley is a smart choice for both residents and businesses,” says Lisa Smith, business development director for Yakima County Development Association. “Yakima County’s real estate market is one of the strongest in the nation with modest gains in value over the last year. Combine this stability with a relatively strong job market, and favorable predictable weather and our region stacks up very well.”

We are only reporting what State Farm cited through research. We are not in denial about the crime element in our community… just trying to put it in relative perspective using Sperling’s report
