Yakima Valley Gears Up For State’s Oldest Wine Competition

May 15, 2009 by

In just a little over a month from now the Central Washington State Fair will host the 28th Washington State Wine Competition. This contest is the only all Washington State wine judging event and this year over 380 wines will be evaluated by a judging staff consisting of winemakers, professional wine judges, and wine writers from up and down the West Coast.

Winners of the competition will be announced on June 20th at “Sunshine and Wine”, a gala event held at State Fair Park. According to Linda Lowe, a Fair Board member and owner Wineglass Cellars, “Sunshine and Wine celebrates and highlights our State’s world class wines. The event is growing more and more popular each year. I think it’s because of our industry’s growing reputation for quality, but people also love visiting our historic fair grounds.”

Yakima County is Washington State’s largest and most diverse wine grape growing region. It is home to over 50 wineries and grapes grown in the county support hundreds of other wineries across the state.

As a sponsoring partner of Sunshine and Wine, New Vision is holding a contest to give away four tickets to the event. To enter our drawing, simply e-mail me at davemc@ycda.com with your contact information and the message “I want to go”. We will draw two winners on June 1st so all entries must be received by May 31st (only one entry per person).
