Yakima Valley Supports Major Investments In Local High Schools
June 12, 2009 by Dave McFadden
Yakima residents recently voted 2 to 1 in favor of upgrading key educational facilities within the region. The successful bond measure allows the Yakima School District to invest over two hundred million dollars to replace and modernize its two high schools.
This is the third recent school bond to pass in the Yakima County to replace or expand local high schools. West Valley School District will open its 2009-2010 school year with a brand new high school and Sunnyside School District will begin construction soon on expanding and renovating their high school
According to Yakima County Development Association Board Chairman David Miller, "Our Valley is sending a strong message that we believe in K-12 education. The region has made a lot of progress in terms of academic achievement so we are especially excited that our children will attend state-of-the-art schools."
With one of the youngest populations in Washington State, the Yakima metropolitan area has an enormous opportunity to benefit from long term educational investments. Local voters are evidently seeing that modern educational facilities are a key part of creating a positive and productive learning environment.
